About

Gültekin Yıldız started her academic career in 1998 as a research assistant at Marmara University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History. He completed his master’s degree in the Contemporary History program of the Turkic Studies Institute of the same University in 2002. After he completed his doctorate, in 2010 he was appointed as an associate professor to Istanbul University Faculty of Letters, Department of Contemporary History. He served as a visiting professor at the Strategic Research Institute and the Turkish Military Academy under the Command of the War Academies between 2010-2016 and at the Air Force Academy at the undergraduate and graduate levels between 2012 and 2014. In 2017, he was appointed as the Director of the Atatürk Institute of Strategic Studies at the National Defense University. In 2020, he was appointed as the Dean of National Defense University, Military Academy.

Prof. Yıldız’s academic area of expertise is contemporary Turkish and European military history. In addition, his research interests include the history of modern criminal execution, the history of modern thought, the philosophy of war and professional military education. Prof. Yıldız has many books, articles, book chapters and translations. He also gave conferences as a speaker in many universities and non-governmental organizations and have been found scientific and professional activities. Prof. Yıldız is currently a member of the Turkish Commission of the International Military History and a member of the Council of Europe History Teaching Observatory (OHTE) Executive Board on behalf of Turkey.
