About

Öner Akgül has bachelor’s degree from International Relations department of Uludağ University in 2005 and completed his M.A. at Marmara University EU Politics and International Relations Department of EU Institute in 2008.  He received his second M.A. degree from Strategic Research Institute of Turkish War Colleges (SAREN). He worked as research assistant in IR Department of Ahi Evran University between 2008 and 2013. He obtained his PhD degree at Gazi University-Ankara, Department of International Relations with a dissertation titled as “Interstate War in International Relations and the Theoretical Analysis of the Causes of Wars” in 2013.  He worked as Assistant  Professor at Ahi Evran University-Kırsehir, Turkey between 2013 and 2020. Akgül carried on his research in Programs in Political Science Department of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a post-doctoral researcher via Tübitak 2219 post-doc scholarship. He got his associate professorship in 2021 at the IR Department of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University. He is one of founding member of Association for Research on Diplomacy and Chief Editor of the Journal of Diplomatic Research. He specificly interested in theories of interstate war and peace, power theory and international relations methodology.
